Can I Travel With a Backlit Display

Short answer: Yes, for most single-wall displays. A backlit wall in its padded or hard case can typically fly as checked luggage, subject to your airline's size and weight limits. For larger multi-panel walls or full booth kits, ground shipping to the venue is usually the more practical choice.

Flying with a backlit display

Single walls up to around 10ft — like a WaveLight 10ft wall or a SEGO mobile lightbox — pack into a case sized for standard oversized checked luggage on most airlines. Before you fly, check two things with your specific airline: the maximum dimensions for oversized baggage, and the weight limit (a packed hard case with LED hardware can run heavier than a typical suitcase). Budget for an oversized-baggage fee either way.

When ground shipping makes more sense

• Multi-panel walls (13ft+) or full booth kits — these travel in multiple cases and are easier to ship directly to the venue's advance-freight warehouse than to check through an airport
• Repeated trips to the same recurring show — some exhibitors store their display at a local facility near the venue rather than flying it back and forth each time
• International travel — shipping avoids the complexity of customs declarations for checked equipment and reduces handling risk

Protecting your display in transit

• Use the manufacturer case, not a generic duffel — the padding and shape are built around the specific frame sections
• Roll (don't fold) any SEG or tension-fabric graphics before packing to avoid permanent crease lines
• Confirm all power leads and connectors are secured inside the case, not loose, before closing it
• If shipping ahead to a venue's advance warehouse, label clearly with your booth number and confirm the show's freight deadline — missing it can mean your display arrives after setup day

What if something gets damaged in transit?

Report any damage within 3 business days of your event so it can be addressed before your next show — see our damage and order support policy for specifics.
